Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Compass is a private, local-first compass and bubble level tool. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is stored, and what choices you have when using the app.

Information Compass handles

Compass uses device motion, accelerometer, magnetic field, and compass sensors to show heading, magnetic field strength, and level measurements. If you grant location permission, Compass can show latitude and longitude, open your current location in a maps app, and calculate true heading from local magnetic declination.

How information is handled

Compass does not currently require an account. Core compass and level features are designed to work locally on your device. We do not sell or rent your location, sensor readings, or personal information.

Local storage

Compass stores app preferences locally on your device, such as theme, heading mode, magnetic field strength visibility, keep-screen-on preference, and level calibration. If you uninstall the app, the operating system may remove this local data unless your device backup system restores it.

Permissions

Compass may ask for foreground location access when you choose to view coordinates, open maps, or use true heading. Location is not used in the background. You can manage permissions in your device settings.

Maps and external apps

When you choose to open your location in a maps app, Compass hands the coordinates to the system or selected maps app. The privacy practices of that receiving app or service are controlled by that third party, not by Compass.

Third-party services

Compass uses platform capabilities and open-source packages to provide sensor access, location permission handling, map launching, and keep-screen-on behavior. App stores, operating systems, and selected destination apps may process information according to their own policies.

Children's privacy

Compass is a general utility app and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Because preferences and readings stay on your device by default, device security matters. Use your device lock, operating system updates, and backups carefully. No method of electronic storage is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Compass changes. The updated version will be included in the app and may also be published on a website for store review and user access.
